Thanks for the letter! I love all the updating and questions, and I would love to answer all of them, and will try to do so.
Oh meals. Breakfast I always have oatmeal with fruit in it. Love oatmeal! Lunch we usually have some kind of sandwich or something. Recently we have been getting avocados and tomatoes, and making a salad with them and balsamic vinegar. On toast it's lovely. We always return to our flats for lunch unless we are in Bicester which is pronounced mister but with a "b". Make sense?
Shopping for food. We have a store called Tesco, where we buy all our food basically. And it's not that different from American food. If I find something that's different, I will take a picture. I will take a picture of our lunch today and send it to you next week. Sound good?
The typical length is different with everyone and for every transfer. I thought that it would be more than one transfer with at least my trainer, but nope. I am staying in Banbury, and Sister B is going to Peterborough. Transfers are tomorrow. I am getting a companion from Slovakia.
our district: Top row the junior companions: Elder Powell, Elder Davies (ZL), Elder K, and me. bottom row senior companions: Elder Love (dl) Elder Hutchinson (ZL), Elder Smith, and Sister Bioleome (the 'e's have accents on them.)
Ok. So I will try to answer the rest of the questions in just the letter portion. Sorry if I don't get to them. If I don't, ask them again.
Ok, so this week has been really good. Super busy, but that's always the best. We had a good week full of teaching. And full of mishaps as well. Starting with the less fun but exciting stuff. So X and Y are no longer our investigators. They didn't come to church, so we went to their house after church to see how they were, and X’s mom came over marched in her house, started yelling at us using much profanity, and told us to get out and to never come back because we were filling their heads with lies and confusing them. After trying to talk about it, we did. She’s a scary woman. So we walked to our car, and she was waiting for us to get in our car, and then she followed us in the car for miles. Like more than 10 minutes. I had just started to drive that day (I’ll come back to that) and I was so scared! Not only was I new at this driving in England thing, I was also being followed by a crazy woman! Finally we turned somewhere and she drove off. Gosh, I was ready to cry. Good thing we were on our way to an investigators home, and they were nice. But wow, that was definitely a journal entry.
So there was a stake relief society activity day in Coventry, and we came with J. A member in our ward who joined the church about 3 years ago gave us a ride, and it was good because she (Ji is also Chinese, so her and J have something in common. J worked the whole night before - yes, she is devoted - and so she slept the whole way. We had a class in the morning, beauty therapy. Learning hand massages and how to do nails properly, and it was so fun. And then we had lunch then we had a class about flower arranging. It was amazing! I learned so much! For example, you know when a rose bud just kinda falls, but it's still a good rose? well, all you have to do is cut the stem at an angle with a knife, not scissors, then put the rose in boiling water for three minutes, then add cool water until the water is luke warm, and the rose will stand up straight again. Things like that, it was so cool! J had a great time, and she was so happy the whole time! She got to know the ward better, and you wouldn't even be able to tell she wasn't a member. Amazing! I love her! OH! While we were at this activity day, President Ogden called us, and told me to start driving, because next transfer, I would be driving. So we figured one of us was leaving Banbury. We wouldn't find out till Monday night. Which was last night, and I am staying in Banbury and being joined by a sister from Slovakia, and sister B is going to Peterborough. Sad! And I think I am going to have to buy a GPS or something, because our area is huge, and I still don't know how to get everywhere. Hmmm, we will see.
So there is a temple trip this Saturday, and we so wish we could go, but we are excited that Jade will be able to go, and so will the Aguilars. Hopefully! It will be so great. The spirit is so strong at the temple; I am so excited for them! And it will be a great way to get to know the members!
The cutest shop in the world. Comparable to anthropology, and we just look in and wish for the pretty things. We walk by it on our way to the library and to the charity shop where we do service.
Yesterday (Monday) we had lunch with Jat J's house, (she is about 30) and it was the best thing in the world. She is Chinese, and made us real Chinese food. Yep, it was amazing. No forks were on the table, it was for real. And then we had a lesson after, and it was awesome. J and J just talked and talked in Chinese, and they became much better friends, which is so good!
So Ch we haven't seen for about a week, but we have an appointment with him this week. T is I think in his late 20's. He did go on a mission to Mexico City I think. T is from America, that's all I know. I do know C is going home in a couple weeks. Can you think of anything I should send with him? LPS would be good if I can think of something.
Um, when there are a lot of people at church, we do our best to make everyone feel like they are being looked after. Sister b and I usually spread out, and sit throughout our investigators, to make them feel more united. Usually, I think the people understand that we are doing the best we can. And you just have to keep switching people you are talking to. Because you also have to get to know the ward and set up things with them, and get them to know you. It’s a bit of a balancing act really. But it's good. If we have that many people there that's it’s a problem, that's awesome! The more the better!!
Sorry this email is so all over the place. So last week the World Cup started, and football (soccer) is a HUGE HUGE deal here. English flags are hanging from most houses and on most cars. So America played England on Saturday, and so we had to be in at 6 o'clock for mostly our safety. Seeing as I’m American, and so are many other missionaries in the mission, we had to take cover. So that's when we did our weekly planning. America got lucky in the game and tied 1:1 with England. I don't think England is very happy about this. Do people in the US even care about the world cup?
Ok, thanks for everything! I love you all! We have so much to do today. Lots of packing and cleaning to get ready for transfers tomorrow. So crazy! Love you and miss you! I know this church is true, and I love it! In my personal study every morning I read the Book of Mormon, and now I am in Alma, and I have a hard time putting it down! It’s such a good book, and it makes my day so good when I read it! I love it!
I love you and am grateful for you! Happy anniversary mom and papa! I hope you had a good time at that restaurant! Have a good time quilting with Sister Fox mom; give her my love. Papa, thank you SOOOO much for my postcards. I love getting them dearly, and they brighten my day and week! They come usually on Tuesday! You are wonderful and I love you sooooo soooo much!
Love,
Sister Clark
PS. I am so excited for the quilt shop sale! I was wondering mom, if you would make me a little strip quilt bookmark for my scriptures. I know you have one, and I would love one if you think of it. It wouldn't be that much to send in an envelope.
