Baby Elna Was Born and Many Countries Represented in our Pool

June 5 2011

Dear mom and papa, and family, and new baby Elna!!!!!!!!

YAYYYYY! So Sister Mee called me early on this week, and read me your email, and I cried. I was so happy! Oh, I can't wait to see pictures of, and meet baby Elna. I am so so so excited about her. I can't believe how fast the birth went. So so so exciting! I can't wait to see pictures, thanks for that!

I’m glad Caroline is doing better. What a shame! How did she get so sick? Hmm. how old is she?

You just sound like you have had such a great week. Gosh! I can't wait to find out more. And I want to see baby Elna sooooooooooooooo bad. I am just telling everyone that I just had my first niece. SO excited. Take TONS of pictures please? I am sad I’m not there for that.

So this week has been great. Our primary sharing time was a complete hit. We made three different games for the three different age groups. The youngest group we made big mormon.org pass along cards that they could color in. they were very cute. And then the second group I took and we played a missionary "memory" game. And each time they got a pair, they had to explain why that thing was missionary work. And they would also get commitments, like giving a friend a pass along card, or a book of Mormon, or giving service, and those commitments were on strips of paper, that we would tape to their wrists so they would have a bracelet, and not lose it. And then the oldest group did a board game. And each one had their own name tag as their piece for the board game. And it was all centered on missionary work. It was a lot of fun. So much to do, but great. And I think the kids were excited to do missionary work. And the leaders seemed like they appreciated it. This next week, Sister Baker and I are giving talks in sacrament meeting on missionary work. It’s a big month! Very exciting!

This week has been cool. Lots of very fun experiences. The other day, we were on our way to our last appointment of the day. We were running late...and were just trying to get there on time, when I felt prompted to pull over and talk to the guy walking down the road. Now, this was a busy road, and we were late, so I kinda excused the prompting, but it didn’t' leave, so I had to do a u-turn, and pull into a side street, and we ran to catch up with him. We did, and I just yelled "hey! I need to talk to you!” we got to him, and he was super confused. I just told him that we were driving by, and felt like we had to talk to him. Turns out he's from Slovakia, and he knows Russian. So Sister Baker pulled out her Russian, and it was great! And we got a return appointment. His name is Ladislav. And then we got back in the car, now really running late to the lesson. But once again, I felt prompted to stop. And this time I heeded it much faster. And there were two guys, one right behind the other. So I told Sister Baker to talk to the first one, and I talked to the second. Both were awesome guys. And we got the information to be able to visit one. One was leaving for Italy to teach English for the summer, so we just gave him a card with our number, and hopefully he'll just look at mormon.org! But it was awesome. We ended up being late to the appointment, but it was ok. Because we got to share the cool experience we had, and it's exciting to share those types of things with members. So good!

We also had a cool lesson with Marcela, our investigator with a baptismal date. She’s awesome. But she hasn't been available to meet with us lately, so we have been worried. But we went to her friend’s house with her, and her friend and we taught the plan of salvation. Her friend didn’t' know very much English, and so we said things really simply, and then let Marcela translate. And it was so cool, because Marcela was able to teach her friend, and it strengthened her testimony. Then Sister Baker invited her to be baptized in Russian, and she didn't accept a date, but she's thinking about it. It’s cool, because both of them came to Biyu's baptism, and they said that they felt so happy there, that when they got home, they couldn't stop smiling. And Marcela knows that that feeling is the spirit, and that it testifies of truth. So it was a really awesome lesson. Unfortunately then, they didn’t' show up for church, so there is work yet to be done. But definitely progression! We are thrilled!

We had some really great lessons with Mah this week, and he's doing well. Apparently why he didn't want to set a date yet, was because there is some immigration stuff going, so he wants to know the result of that first. But hopefully they'll let him stay in the country, and he'll be fine. We set a date to work towards of the 23 July, but he wants to move it up, it's just too far away. So that's good! And also, when we had a lesson with him, we asked him how his coffee trouble is going, and he told us that since that lesson, he hasn't had any coffee, and now he doesn't even like it, and doesn’t want it. Clearly the Lords hand is in this work! Mahdi is awesome! And everyone at church absolutely LOVES him. He’s great. And he loves the kids there, and he is completely part of the ward. It’s great. He is really "golden"!

Oh dear, no more raw chicken this week. But we were fed some awesome South African food, ate in the traditional style with our hands. It was awesome! Best DA ever! That was from our South African investigator Mapfumo, and his partner Julia from Lithuania (I think). They are awesome.

we have so many different nationalities of investigators:

Iran

Slovakia
South Africa
Ghana
Togo
Germany
China
Malawi
Czech Republic
England
Romania

and that's just investigators. If we added less actives that we're working with it would add Poland and more. But that's crazy! That’s Birmingham for you! It’s GREAT here!

So things are doing well. We are working hard. I’m trying my best to be a good trainer. And love being here in Birmingham. What fun!

Love you SO much! Take care of Lucy and Elna! Oh my, I can't believe I have a niece!!!! Yay Lucy! Love you!
Love,
Annie
